For the past few days, there’s been an uproar everywhere, claiming that DeepSeek has outdone ChatGPT, sparking endless discussions. People are talking about this as if it’s a groundbreaking event!
It’s true that DeepSeek’s launch has shaken the global stock market, causing a drop in shares of many prominent tech companies—a phenomenon that’s not uncommon. However, comparing the two platforms without understanding their core differences and calling one better than the other is downright unfair.
What’s even more upsetting is when some individuals exaggerate the situation just to get more views, and their followers blindly trust and share such posts without verifying facts.
Globally, individuals climb the ladder of knowledge, skills, hard work, and success to achieve the status of a mentor. But in Pakistan, the trend seems reversed—many start as self-proclaimed mentors and then try to climb the ladder of skill and success. For many here, to become the “savior” of the nation, the only prerequisite is the ability to speak convincingly.
Let’s talk about ChatGPT and DeepSeek.
Both platforms have a clear and significant difference in purpose. Their algorithms, methods, advantages, and even limitations are distinct from each other. To truly understand this, you need to be familiar with prompt engineering.
The Purpose of ChatGPT:
ChatGPT was designed with a clear goal: to understand human psychology, perform creative tasks like humans, and interpret human emotions and languages in a conversational, natural manner. It utilizes a black-box neural system to improve itself automatically and to gather data independently. (I’ve written a detailed post about this earlier.)
The Purpose of DeepSeek:
DeepSeek, on the other hand, is explicitly aimed at technical tasks like coding, data analysis, and providing solutions in computer science and engineering. It is designed to make development processes easier and faster.
It’s worth noting that ChatGPT has access to a much broader dataset compared to DeepSeek. While DeepSeek focuses on technical problem-solving, ChatGPT offers a broader range of capabilities.
When ChatGPT initially started providing incorrect responses to coding-related queries, its team promptly clarified this limitation. Meanwhile, Google introduced Google Bard and recently, Google Gemini, which are technically more advanced than ChatGPT in certain areas.

- ChatGPT’s Response: ChatGPT also provided the correct code but included detailed instructions like file naming, linking files, and using dummy data for context. While helpful for a technical person, a non-technical individual might find these instructions confusing and prone to errors.

Blindly comparing the two platforms or claiming one to be superior over the other is nothing more than uninformed favoritism.
